Overview of Classes

The main goal of all of our programs is to keep moving and stay connected!

All Team Survivor classes and activities are hosted by our community partner organizations and led by skilled trainers and instructors. Everything listed is offered at no charge to members, and membership is free.

Please note that members must have a completed medical form on file before participating in any Team Survivor exercise activities.

We're always looking for opportunities to provide new offerings for our members. If you are an instructor or affiliated with a gym, studio, or other fitness organization and would like to discuss a potential partnership, please contact us!

Dance - Tap, Jazz, Ballet

Dance is about much more more than technique, shares Brenna Kuhn, founder and director of Art Beat Dance Center. It’s about connection, expression, and staying vibrant - and it's for everyone, at every life stage. Art Beat offers Team Survivor members tap, jazz, and ballet classes for all experience levels. Many of our members with zero dance training have taken one of these classes just to try something new, and found a new passion that keeps them active.

Hiking & Walking

Hiking and walking are both excellent aerobic exercises for improving cardiovascular fitness, reducing risk of heart disease and stroke while helping with weight management alongside numerous other benefits. Hiking guide and movement therapist Katie Phillips regularly leads hikes and walks for members of all abilities, some on wheelchair accessible trails. Come explore Austin area greenspaces and connect with fellow survivors and thrivers in the great outdoors.

Rowing - Indoor

Our partner Ro Fitness provides low-impact, high-energy workouts on indoor rowing machines (known as ergs, for ergometers), a quick, easy, and fun way of both building strength and getting in your cardio. Instructors at Ro teach thorough injury-preventative techniques and can adjust your workout based on individual needs. No experience is necessary for these one-hour classes - plus, the view from the Waller Creek Boathouse balcony overlooking Lady Bird Lake is awesome.

Rowing - Outdoor

Our year-round rowing program dates back to 2010, supported by the nonprofit Austin Rowing Center (ARC) at the Waller Creek Boathouse on stunning Lady Bird Lake. The Team Survivor rowing group meets every week for practice on the water with an ARC coach, using single, double, or quad sculling boats as decided by the group. Those new to rowing first complete 10 indoor sessions with Ro Fitness to safely learn the basics and ensure proper form. Everything you need is included.

Spin - Indoor cycling

A popular offering hosted by our partner Grit ATX, spin classes suit a wide range of abilities and fitness goals. Spin has many physical and mental health benefits, including building endurance and lower muscle strength while increasing metabolism and burning significant calories. At Grit, you can go at your own pace by controlling the resistance on your spinner bike, making classes enjoyable for those at all levels. You don't need to be strong to go - that's what class is for!

Strength & Conditioning

We partner with multiple gyms, studios, and trainers to offer a variety of strength training and conditioning classes, including options specifically for those whose lives have been impacted by cancer. There's something for everyone, with partner locations across the greater Austin area. Members with physical limitations may be especially interested in connecting with our partner REIZ Adaptive Fitness to explore workouts tailored to everyone's unique abilities.

Yoga, Pilates, Qigong

A number of our partners provide different types of mind-body wellness classes. Explore them and you'll find something for you, whether you're a pro or entirely new to these practices. Classes include options specifically for those impacted by cancer, and some members may be especially interested in Moving Beyond Cancer Collaborative. All their classes entail modifications, including chair yoga both in-person and online.

Zumba

Dance away your worries to high-energy, motivating music and get in a workout at the same time with Zumba, the fitness program that combines cardio with Latin-inspired dance styles. Longtime Team Survivor partner and Latina-owned Corazon Latino Dance Studio has been combining exercise with fun since 2009. The studio provides Team Survivor members Zumba classes alongside other strength & conditioning offerings at both their North and South locations.

Adaptive fitness
