Hiking & Walking
Wonder Walks
The Wonder Walks program offers a variety of walks and hikes led by hiking guide and movement therapist Katie Phillips of More Durable, a Team Survivor community partner.
There is something special about walking in nature spaces that allows for relaxation, communication, and connection. Wonder Walks are attended by people who have also experienced cancer so you know you'll be understood.
Details of the location, terrain, and length in distance and time will be posted prior to the event, along with any special notes so you know what you're getting into before you get there. All abilities and stages of healing are welcome and appreciated.
Monthly hikes/Walks
Hikes/walks are staggered to different days/times so if you can't make one, hopefully the next one will fit your schedule. All are in different parts of town and greenspace locations so you can be introduced to new areas and return to them later.
Past hikes/walks have included the Barton Creek Greenbelt, Common's Ford, the Violet Crown Trail, Lake Pflugerville, and Bauerle Ranch. Some trails are wheelchair accessible, such as the Boggy Creek trail where the group had a great time exploring an abandoned well and a pond with ducks, herons, and geese.
Pop-up Hikes/Walks & Special Events
In addition to the monthly Wonder Walks, Katie also leads pop-up hikes throughout the year, including participation in special events such as the Together in Teal walk for ovarian cancer awareness in San Marcos. See how to keep up to date below.
How to join a hike/Walk
- Currently the best way to get the latest details is joining Team Survivor's private Survivor Strong group on Facebook. Some members not otherwise on social media set up a free, private Facebook account just to keep up to date. All Team Survivor hikes/walks are regularly shared in the group.
- We also announce planned hikes/walks in our e-newsletter, though that information may not be the latest since the newsletter is monthly. If you're not already signed up, you can subscribe to the newsletter here.
Please reach out to us with any questions. See you in the great outdoors!
